Response from minister Lutgen

Via Andrée Thonnon en de 1000 Handtekeningen actie hebben we een reactie van députée Florine pary-Mille ontvangen die vragen stelde aan minister Lutgen over de strop in Maart. (zie bijlage I en bijlage II)

Via Andrée Thonnon in our 1000 signatures email action we received a response from another politician, deputee Florine pary-Mille, who had asked the minister for explanation concerning this issue, some time in March. He sent a reply. (see images)

Daarin wordt uitgelegd dat de strop geplaatst wordt om de vos te vangen die wegens de besmettelijke lintworm gevangen en gedood wordt. Er wordt ook in uitgelegd dat de strop aan strenge voorwaarden zou voldoen en louter vossen zou strikken en andere dieren los laat. Dat is dus duidelijk NIET het geval, waarvan dit weblog en talloze andere berichten op internet een bewijs zijn. Tel daarbij op dat door dit niet-selectieve vangmiddel in de buurt van een dassenburcht te plaatsen, ook dit beschermd dier in gevaar komt.

In that reply is explained that the snare is necessary to destroy the fox who carries a contagious en lethal organism for humans. It is also explained that these snares meet strict conditions and that they only capture the fox. We all know this isn't the case, or else we wouldn't have launched this weblog about the badgers, a protected species, who also suffer due to these snares for foxes. And by deliberately placing these snares in the habitat of badgers, one creates an unacceptable situation by endangering and damaging an animal that is supposed to be protected!

De jachtwachter die door het U.A.B. geconfronteerd werd met zijn daden, ontkende dat hij zijn stroppen voor de das plaatste. Tegen een bewoner van een van de dorpen in Bassenge heeft hij echter ooit gezegd dat hij een hekel heeft aan dassen omdat ze fazanteneieren eten... En de fazanten die door de familie Baudinet en hun jachtwachter worden uitgezet voor hun recreatiejacht zijn uiteraard heilig, vergeleken bij de inheemse en beschermde das...

The game warden who was confronted by the U.A.B. initially denied he had placed those snares to catch badgers. But to an inhabitant of one of the villages in Bassenge, he admitted he hated the badger for eating the eggs of the pheasants. And we all know that the family Baudinet and their game warden breed these birds, release them in the fields and feed them for their own hunting pleasure. A recreational activity that is sacred compared to the indigenous and protected badger...
